MAC Ruby Woo Dupes Here are our dupes for MAC Ruby Woo, which is a very cool-toned, medium-dark red with a matte finish. It is a permanent lipstick that retails for $20.00 and contains 0.1 oz. I love MAC's ma ttes but I am not an expert so I can hardly tell. The only difference that I see is that Ruby Woo is more dry compared to Russian Red, it doesn't glides o n the lips. And becau se it can be more drying, y ou really need to moisturize your lips first before applying it.
Ruby Woo and Russian Red are well known MAC lipsticks, but which one should you get if you can't decide between the two hyped up lipsticks? This is MAC's Ruby Woo vs Russian Red, a comparison between the two.

I don't know anyone who hasn't heard of/ thinks this color is gorgeous; there's a reason it is so hyped and has reached ‘cult classic' status. Ruby Woo looks gorgeous on literally every skin tone whether you are super fair skinned, dark skinned and everything in between. If you're looking for a matte red color that really stands out and looks like an almost electric/ neon red, this color is for you.
However, there is one major downside to this shade that tends to turn people off: the formula.
Ruby Woo is a retro matte shade, which is one step drier than matte, so of course you would expect it to be drying on the lips, but this lipstick takes the word dry to a whole new level. Since this is so dry, applying it can be a little difficult; it tugs at the lips and doesn't glide on smoothly.
I find that you really have to weigh the pros and cons of this lipstick.

If you suffer from severely chapped lips then I would probably skip Ruby Woo because it settles into the fine lines of your lips so if they are extremely chapped it won't be a good look. Even if your lips are not naturally chapped, I would go ahead and exfoliate and heavily moisturize before applying this lipstick, let the moisture sink in and then apply this lipstick. Do not, I repeat, do not apply this right on top of your lip balm because the color will not be as vibrant as it usually is. Your lips need to be bare, but not chapped. Does that even make sense? I hope so.

Russian Red is a lot creamier in formulation, but it definitely isn't as vibrant a shade as Ruby Woo. Russian Red is a little bit darker and more neutral. This has a matte finish, but it does not feel uncomfortable on the lips. When applying this lipstick from the bullet, it doesn't tug on the lips because it has a creamier finish that is almost moisturizing when compared to Ruby Woo. Even though it might not be as electric or neon as Ruby Woo, the color is still very vibrant and opaque even with just one swipe.

If formula is very important to you and you despise dry lipsticks then I would definitely stay away from Ruby Woo and purchase Russian Red instead since it's still a gorgeous red shade. However, if color is more important then I, personally, would purchase Ruby Woo because it is more on the neon side.
Mac help line. At first glance, both shades are extremely similar, but if you are a lipstick aficionado then you will definitely notice the subtle differences in color. Regardless of your level of lipstick-expertise, you will definitely notice the differences in formula and applicability, but both red shades are classics in their own right. Even though I have both shades I generally lean more towards Ruby Woo if I want to wear a red lip. Now, if you're a complete lipstick hoarder like me, you should just go ahead and pick up both shades because they're both so pretty!

I was never a red lipstick person until I tried The Mac Ruby Woo. It was and still is, one of the best shade of Red I have ever worn. And then, comes The Mac Russian Red. It is again one of the reds that give me a glamorous feeling every time I put it on. Writing this post on MAC Ruby Woo vs Russian Red as a lot of you have been asking me which one is a better red lipstick shade. 🙂

About the lipsticks:
The overly famous Ruby woo falls under ‘Retro matte' category of the Mac Matte Lipstick. Retro matte lipsticks are super matte and can be extremely hard to apply on dry/ chapped lips. A well-moisturized lip is a must before applying the lipstick on or it may look horribly sad. But, retro matte lipsticks has it's own beauty. Since the texture of the lipsticks is super matte, the color payoff is amazing and it's long-wearing formula is commendable.
Russian Red, on the other hand, falls under Mac's ‘matte' category and therefore is very smooth and easy to apply. It is way off creamy and has a high color payoff. It has the perfect matte texture and doesn't have any shimmer or shine.

Shade: At first glance, there is not much difference between the two shades. Both the shades have a blue undertone to it. When applied on lips, Ruby woo looks brighter than the Russian Red as the later has more intense bluish undertone to it. In short, Russian red is deeper than Ruby woo.
Texture: Ruby woo is super matte and needs a good amount of swipes and the right amount of pressure to get the perfect red pout. Works best on well-moisturized lips. Russian red, on the other hand, is super easy to apply since it's texture is that of a creamy matte. The matte texture of both the lipsticks helps the product from feathering, so you have a non messy lips most of the day.
Lipstick Hack: I am sure you all know this very common lipstick hack where you dab a little amount of loose powder over the lipstick to give it a matte finish. I tried the trick with Russian Red lipstick, and I was quite surprised to see that it looked (almost) like Ruby Woo. The powder minimises the deeper undertone and gives it a bit brighter look.
For those who love rich matte Red lipsticks, I suggest you guys try both the shades out!
